Launching Green Buildings BC for Local Governments

Building Energy Efficiency Retrofits - A Free Service to Save Money and Carbon

Climate change, energy costs, carbon neutral by 2012 - all big challenges for local governments in BC. A good place to start is civic and regional government buildings. Buildings, particularly recreation facilities, are one of biggest energy users for local governments and, as such, have significant energy costs and carbon emissions. A free service is now available to support BC local governments to retrofit existing buildings to use less energy, save money, and get closer to carbon neutrality.

Green Buildings BC for Local Governments program is being launched by the Community Energy Association (CEA) on behalf of the Province of BC. This FREE program assists local governments in navigating through the building retrofit process, creating momentum and buy-in with staff and council, and providing guidance on the magnitude of the opportunity for your local government. This program builds on the success of the Green Buildings BC program which has assisted many schools, hospitals, universities and colleges with their retrofit journey. This new program has been customized to the unique needs of local governments. Retrofits costs are regularly recovered through reduced operating costs.

CEA's Mike Wilson (see contact details on contact page of website) would be happy answer questions about the program and discuss how your community might benefit from this FREE service open to all local governments across BC. Please visit http://www.greenbuildingsbc.com/Home/Retrofit.aspx for more information on the program and http://www.communityenergy.bc.ca/ for more information on CEA.
